Informal Justice Actors
My work explores informal justice online. I focus on groups like scambaiters and pedohunters who take action against online offenders outside of the formal legal system. These communities develop their own tactics to expose, disrupt, or deter scammers and exploiters, often using a range of tactics and technologies to achieve their goals.
I study how these informal justice efforts shape the broader cybercrime ecosystem by influencing offenders, law enforcement, and public perceptions of risk. By examining their methods, motivations, and impacts, I aim to understand both the benefits and drawbacks of citizen-led approaches to online safety.
